This month, Simon's employees contributed individual donations totaling $500 to Vera House, a local organization that "offers comprehensive emergency sheltering services to individuals and families in crisis. Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at two confidential locations. The shelter offers a safe and nurturing environment where survivors can find refuge and spend time healing as they move toward freedom from violence." The Vera House Vision is “A world free of violence and abuse.” In 2018, Vera House was able to aid 1,562 victims, and offer shelter to 323.
Simon's Cares Blog: Showcasing Simon's Community Involvement
Last Friday, Simon's employees contributed to its own drive to give back to our heroes on the front lines of the pandemic. Employees donated over $250 with Simon's matching that contribution. With this, we were able to provide lunch from San Remo to the New York State Police in North Syracuse, the Onondaga County Sheriffs in Liverpool and a Dunkin gift card to the Moyers Corners Volunteer Fire Department!
Over the coming weeks Simon’s Agency is sharing some good stories from our Community. From Dave Caramanna dishing up pay-it-forward meals at the Chickadee Human Eatery to those in need while serving up a philosophical breakfast chat over vodka and Quisp cereal to another Dave across the swamp, who together with wife, Ann have converted their burgeoning distillery into a 24-hour sanitizer factory, Simon’s is highlighting what its friends and neighbors are doing to help those in need and lending its support along the way.
On Saturday, November 9th, Simon’s Agency volunteers gathered at the Samaritan Center for Simon’s third annual Volunteer Day where it prepared, cooked and served meals to those on the City of Syracuse’s north side and downtown area on the first weekend of winter weather in our community. It was a good thing we were able to hand out winter hats as well!
On Saturday, November 10th, Simon’s Agency volunteers gathered at the Samaritan Center for Simon’s second annual Volunteer Day where it prepared, cooked and served nearly 200 meals to those on the City of Syracuse’s north side and downtown area on the first blustery weekend of winter weather this season.
Simon’s employee, Thomas M. Ralph III, also known as “Corpse Grinder” by his brothers (due to his former profession as a meat cutter and his love of Death Metal) in the Hades Hounds Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC), has made it a point in his life to make an impact in the lives of the less fortunate in Central New York. As President and Co-Founder of the Cayuga County chapter of the LEMC, Tom has been on the front lines of their grass roots efforts.
Simon's Agency is proud to be taking part in the Believe in Syracuse Summer Youth Drive. This annual program invites the Central New York community to rally behind kindergarten through fifth graders by donating their used books to help with their summer reading.
On Saturday, October 14th, Simon’s Agency volunteers gathered at the Samaritan Center on Syracuse’s North Side near downtown. The early crew helped Samaritan volunteers Marc and Maryanne prepare a meal of stew, biscuits and salad that we were to serve for lunch. We also bagged grapes and split up pastry donations into servable portions, some of which were served that day or divided out for bagged lunches and meals for the following week. Simon’s owner, Phil Bova, contributed the funds required to pay for this meal and blessed us with his encouragement and full support of this initiative. Every volunteer was excited to represent Simon’s and reflect the generosity shining from the very top of our organization.
