A Day in the Life: Theft by Dispute

In the spirit of our previously-published Who’s Got Your Six blog post, we are introducing a new From the Owner’s Corner blog series that highlights some of the critical exposure points that your third-party collection agencies face in their everyday work of collecting your outstanding receivables.

Through a recent series of events that epitomize the blatant disregard for debt validation in favor of juicing a system intended to help the few consumers who use the process legitimately, this article exposes the hypocrisy that some attorneys and credit repair companies use to exploit the process that allows consumers to ask for validation of a debt or to dispute its accuracy.

Can't You Hear Me Knocking?

If you like the Rolling Stones song by the same name, you’ll really appreciate this scary fact, Americans are only answering their cell phones 47% of the time according to Hiya, an authority on the subject.  Less than half of all attempts to reach consumers on their cell phones and yet statistics show that Americans check their cell phone every 12 minutes or 80 times each day!

Who's Got Your Six? We Do.

Did you know that the most dangerous part of running a business is collecting bad debt?  The minefield that we, as a collection agency, must navigate day in and day out applies to anyone collecting bad debt.  So, when it comes down to the actual act of collections it’s more than fair to ask, “Who’s got your back?”

Simon's Hometown Heroes

Over the previous three months, Simon's Agency and its staff made it a priority to recognize and contribute to organizations and neighbors in the spirit of honoring our Hometown Heroes who have made a special impact in our local community.

First came recognition of Chickadee Human Eatery and a donation to support their "Pay it Forward" wall which gives those in need a free hot meal as well as Hall Island Distillery which converted its business into a full time sanitizer factory, producing a much needed product during the early phases of the pandemic.

Then employees turned their focus to our local front line first responders at the New York State Police in North Syracuse, the Onondaga County Sheriffs in Liverpool, and the  Moyers Corners Volunteer Fire Department providing lunch from San Remo or gift cards from Dunkin.

Next, Simon's Agency employees made a heartfelt donation to Vera House, a local organization that "offers comprehensive emergency sheltering services to individuals and families in crisis."

Finally, this past month, Simon's sponsored a hole at the annual North Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps golf tournament and sent our good friends from Raymour & Flanigan Furniture and Mattresses on to a 13 under par 59 second-place finish! Simon's also provided a donation to Practice Resource's Annual Charity Golf Tournament which benefited Make-A-Wish this year.

Keep an eye out this fall for Simon's Annual Volunteer Day which supports the Samaritan Center.
