A Message To Our Clients & Friends

The sun is beginning to rise and many of us are preparing for the promise that tomorrow brings.

While the Central New York region has moved into a phase 3 reopening status that includes offices at 50% staffing, Simon's Agency continues to service its clients from a remote working environment. With collection efforts yielding steady recovery rates and service to our clients not skipping a beat, there is no rush for us to fully reopen our offices.

We are taking every measure available to ready ourselves for our eventual full re-opening, however the way Americans work will never be completely the same as before this pandemic, so we are taking our time to diligently prepare for this post-Covid world, while keeping the safety of our staff and the continuity of our operations foremost in mind.

Regardless of any remote or in-office changes, Simon's Agency will continue to operate at the same high level you have come to expect from us. We'll have more to share in next month's Simon's Says.

Taking Back the Narrative

We wanted to highlight the response a Texas Hospital has used to defend against what turns out to be an unfair criticism of their collection efforts.  Cedar Park Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) was blasted for taking legal action against some of its non-paying patients in a report published by the organization, Restoring Medicine, which was subsequently picked up by the national news media.

In taking back the narrative, CPRMC Chief Executive, Bo Beaudry released a statement that read, in part, “Fortunately, the majority of our patients pay their bills so a very small percentage of our hospital’s nearly 180,000 annual patient encounters result in litigation... Litigation is always a last resort and is only pursued after we determine the patient has the financial ability to make some level of payment based on employment status and credit record. Once a bill is mailed, if no payment is received, we make numerous attempts — often 10 or more times — to contact patients via phone and mail in order to establish an interest-free payment plan workable for their circumstances. If a patient does not respond or agrees to a payment plan and then does not make payments, we may seek payment through the judicial process.”

We applaud CPRMC for taking a stand for all of us in the accounts receivable management industry. While we all work hard to insulate and protect patients, this effort should be a reciprocated value shared by patients as well as the organizations that serve them.

Simon's Hometown Heroes (June)

This month, Simon's employees contributed individual donations totaling $500 to Vera House, a local organization that "offers comprehensive emergency sheltering services to individuals and families in crisis. Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at two confidential locations. The shelter offers a safe and nurturing environment where survivors can find refuge and spend time healing as they move toward freedom from violence."  The Vera House Vision is “A world free of violence and abuse.” In 2018, Vera House was able to aid 1,562 victims, and offer shelter to 323.

With many state and municipal governments facing severe reductions in sales tax revenue, many organizations like Vera House are seeing grant money and community contributions dry up, leading many to desperately seek other means to fill their funding gaps. Our employees took action and we hope that our small gesture might inspire other organizations to think about similar not-for-profits in their own communities.

Simon's Hometown Heroes (May)

Last month, Simon's employees contributed to its own drive to give back to our heroes on the front lines of the pandemic. Employees donated over $250 with Simon's matching that contribution. With this, we were able to provide lunch from San Remo to the New York State Police in North Syracuse, the Onondaga County Sheriffs in Liverpool and a Dunkin gift card to the Moyers Corners Volunteer Fire Department!

"We would like to thank your agency for graciously sending pizza and wings to our Troopers at our SP North Syracuse station."

- Tpr. Jack L. Keller, Public Information Officer

A Community Embraces a "Pay It Forward" Spirit

Over the coming weeks Simon’s Agency is sharing some good stories from our Community. From Dave Caramanna dishing up pay-it-forward meals at the Chickadee Human Eatery to those in need while serving up a philosophical breakfast chat over vodka and Quisp cereal to another Dave across the swamp, who together with wife, Ann have converted their burgeoning distillery into a 24-hour sanitizer factory, Simon’s is highlighting what its friends and neighbors are doing to help those in need and lending its support along the way.
